Companion Services
Companion Services comprise non-medical care, supervision and socialization provided to a person who is 18 years or older. These services help a person work toward a therapeutic or community integration goal in their support plan. Examples of Companion services include the following.
- Accompanying a person to a movie to enable them practice coping skills in their attempt to deal with social anxiety.
- Accompanying the person to a community event to minimize their social isolation.
- Playing an appropriate game with the person to enhance their fine or gross motor skills.
- Providing verbal instructions or cues to the person to help them complete a task.
- Assisting or supervising the person with tasks such as laundry, light housekeeping, meal preparation and shopping.
